Camillus Community Band
The Camillus Community Band was formed in 2017 out of a vision of Andy Perry, long time instrumental music instructor in the West Genesee Central School District. He had the idea to provide an outlet to adult instrumental musicians to continue to play.
When asked in an interview as to why he started the ensemble, Perry noted “…[he] was thinking, [he’s] a teacher. [he’s] teaching all these wonderful people to play their horns, and you come out of high school and maybe play in college, and then what happens? You don’t have the opportunity to play at that high level again.”
This seventy-member ensemble was put together and continues to evolve in order to allow for adults in the community to play at that high level. They perform four concerts each year, rehearsing weekly during the school calendar year.
Past Features
The annual holiday concert encompassed a breadth of traditional and modern holiday tunes, with the stunning vocals of Katie Weber, as well as the return of the WGHS Chorale to play with the band! The big man himself, Santa Claus even showed up for this one!
A collection of music ranging from the bombast of John Williams’ “Olympic Fanfare,” to the nuance of Morricone’s “Gabriel’s Oboe” and the tenor vocals of Don Schuessler on “Anthem” from Chess showcases the breadth of the ensemble.
Between deMeij’s “Gandalf”, from his Symphony No. 1 The Lord of the Rings, “You Raise Me Up” featuring the vocals of Danyella Roper, and the emotive and thrilling violin of guest violinist Edgar Tumajyan on “Schindler’s List” and “Czardas,” there’s sounds for everyone in this program.

The Band performed at the dinner on reunion weekend for the West Genesee High School Marching Band. This weekend celebrated the history of the program, which many members of the band attended in the past.
